The National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT), a University of Rhode Island (URI) and U.S. Navy partnership, needed a one-stop technology partner for their various research project needs that met the CUI (CMMC) compliance requirements for sensitive defense research.
Under an institution-wide agreement, Sherlock supports NIUVT’s mission by supporting over a dozen projects that need to meet the CUI (CMMC) requirement. The engagement includes use cases that span deploying high-end computing resources, graphic intensive systems for 3D design and platforms for analytics and data mining.
With Sherlock’s support URI and NIUVT continues to accelerate critical research and enhance U.S. superiority in submarine and other undersea vehicle technologies. This is without overly taxing the URI’s IT Services department so they can continue to deliver services to the wider university.
“Providing secure computing services in the cloud allows our staff to focus on direct support of research teams on campus - instead of worrying about infrastructure and compliance, they can focus on mapping research problems to computational models. Our bi-coastal partnership with Sherlock supports this shift of focus by providing secure data storage for our research teams. We are thrilled to partner with them and look forward to continuing to develop research computing as a service nationally.”
